This course introduces students to the foundations of the criminal justice system and its role in society. Students explore the structure and function of law enforcement, courts, and corrections, as well as the causes and consequences of criminal
behavior. The course examines crime through psychological, social, and legal perspectives, including case studies such as serial offenses, mass violence, and notable criminal cases. Topics include the insanity plea, criminal responsibility, and the intersection of mental health and the legal system. . The course emphasizes critical thinking, evidence-based analysis, and respectful
dialogue, providing students with tools to understand the complexities of crime, law, and societal response without promoting
a particular viewpoint.
Notes:
Student must bring their own boxing gloves. Student must bring their own snacks and beverages.
