Rodolfo Ayala |
Rudy Ayala is an associate faculty member with the University of Phoenix Information Systems and Technology Department. Mr. Ayala worked for 33 years as a general engineer and information technology specialist with the Department of Defense (DoD) Test and Evaluation Department. During his tenure with the DoD, Mr. Ayala supported the Army at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and Aberdeen Command Group in Maryland, with the Navy at Point Mugu Naval Base in California, and at the Pentagon with the Ballistic Missile Defense Agency and the Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence Department. While with the DoD, he received several awards including the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 2005, and he was inducted into the Army Acquisition Corps in 2002. He has also served as a program manager with Enterprise Information Services, Inc. in Vienna, Virginia. He continues to consult within the DoD community and other organizations through his own consulting business, Systems IT Solutions, LLC. Mr. Ayala holds a Masters of Science in Engineering from California State University at Northridge, a Bachelor of Science in both Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science from The University of Texas at El Paso, and is Lean Six Sigma - Black Belt certified from Purdue University. |
Mike Baker | Mike Baker has been an instructor since 2011. He was previously an HVAC Program Director at both Virginia College and Vista College. Baker was a HVAC technician for several decades and has experience hiring, training, and managing HVAC Technicians. He holds numerous HVAC Excellence certifications, several Green Mechanical Council certifications, an EPA 608 Universal certification, and Emerson Climate Technology certifications. He has served as both an HVAC Excellence Instructor and Exam Proctor. |

El Paso (Ai-Hwa Chinese Language School | El Paso's Ai-Hwa Chinese Language School has provided quality traditional Chinese education for several decades. The school operated as "El Paso Chinese Language School" from1990 to 1995 under the direction of Anne Liu. It has been operating under its current name since 1998 with Shinping "Champagne" Chyi as its leader. In May 2004, Ai-Hwa was incorporated as a nonprofit organization and now offers tax-deductible donations. The curriculum focuses on phonetics and traditional Chinese characters and provides weekly classes for small groups of students to listen, speak, read, and write in Chinese. Students can also participate in activities and extracurricular programs that expose them to Chinese culture. The teachers are all native Chinese speakers, each with at least bachelor's degree and up to 20-plus years of teaching experience. |

Laura Escobar | Laura Escobar has been dancing ballet since she was seven years old, under the artistic direction of Maru Becerra, Ballet Mistress at the Juarez Ballet Company. Since 2005, she has also been a ballet instructor at the same company where she teaches children starting at the age of three. Escobar has performed and assisted in choreographing ballets such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, La Fille Mal Garde, Coppellia, Giselle, among others. In 2015, Escobar obtained her B.F.A. in Dance with a concentration in ballet, graduating cum laude from UTEP. As part of her training at UTEP, Escobar developed an adaptive ballet class designed for children with disabilities, specifically Down syndrome. My Joyful Dance, where she teaches approximately twenty students with disabilities, has been under her instruction and direction since September 2014 at UTEP. Since June 2015, Escobar has also taught the Department of Theatre and Dance Children's Ballet Program, consisting of Saturday morning, weekday classes, and summer dance camps for children ages three through twelve. |

Felix Fernandez | Felix Fernandez was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He has a double bachelor's in Linguistics and Psychology, an M.A in Applied Linguistics and a TESOL certification, all from UTEP. Fernandez is a first- generation American, and the first in his family to obtain a master's degree. He is proficient in Spanish and English, his two primary languages. Fernandez has nearly a decade of experience in post-secondary education and scientific research at institutions of higher education in the El Paso region. As a Language Instructor at El Paso Community College (EPCC), he helped facilitate student success by creating a much-needed conversational English component and tutoring hours to the Academic and Intensive English Programs. At EPCC, he also recruited students to attend social and cultural events, tutoring and conversation courses, and academic and career fairs. Finally, he worked with other instructors to actively engage students and prepare them for college entry exams such as the TOEFL and AccuPlacer. |

Martha Herrera-Maese | Martha Herrera-Maese is a native El Pasoan who graduated from UTEP with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration in May 2001. She did an internship at a manufacturing company while attending her last year of college, and worked as a Generalist for about 10 months after receiving her degree. Mrs. Herrera-Maese has worked at University Medical Center of El Paso since April 2002. The first four years she worked as a Benefits Specialist, and the last 13 years as a Compensation Analyst. She received her Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification in December 2005, and her Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification in July 2015. Martha has served as a Benefits and Compensation instructor for the PHR/SPHR Exam Preparation Course at UTEP since the Fall 2013. |

Insights | Insights El Paso Science Center has provided engaging hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) learning opportunities to the Border Region for over 40 years. As a now 100% mobile museum, Insights offers a variety of hands-on, fun summer camps designed to introduce STEAM concepts, technology, and careers. Though campers will never know it, they'll also be reviewing grade-appropriate academic standards while building a robot, designing a real gumball machine or experimenting with circuits. Rebekah Jerabek | Ms. Jerabek has a Bachelor of Science in English with a minor in Journalism from Northwest Missouri State University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from The University of Texas at El Paso. She is a part of the UTEP English Department where she teaches Rhetoric and Writing Studies courses. Ms. Jerabek is an avid reader and writer. She’s inspired by what she reads to embark on her own adventures—including hiking, kayaking and recreational archery—and in turn uses those adventures to fuel her writing. She enjoys helping others to develop a similar passion for reading, writing and adventuring in general. |
Nancy Johnson | As the owner of Empowerment Health and Wellness, Nancy Johnson has over 25 years of experience and knowledge, providing training and developing programs for individual clients, businesses and corporations to improve overall health and wellness. |
Terrence Johnson | Terrence Johnson is a former UTEP football player; he is also a personal trainer, strength and conditioning coach, weight-loss management specialist, and health and wellness coach who is certified in all these individual areas. Johnson has taught PE, and has been an Athletic Director for over 12 years. Johnson created Empowerment Health & Wellness in 2004 with his wife to develop sports and wellness camps. Their incentive-based educational programs and health programs are available at local schools and nonprofit organizations. Empowerment Health and Wellness has worked with The University of Texas at El Paso; Family Services of El Paso; NFL player Ray Mickens; New Orleans Saints coach Brian Young; and Seattle Seahawks starting center, Justin Britt. |
Young Lee | Young Lee is a photography instructor for UTEP Professional and Public Programs and EPCC's Continueing Education. He is also a well-known wedding and portrait photographer. Lee learned how to take great photographs through the American Nikon School and the American Professional Photographer (PPA). He loves photography and teaches them how to use the camera with confidence, with precious efforts to maximize efficiency. |

Graciela Medina | Graciela MedinaMs. Medina is a 2009 graduate from the University of Texas at El Paso, her major is in Kinesiology and minor in Education. Ms. Medina currently works for the Ysleta Independent School District and coaches at St. Clement's Parish School. She has experience in coaching children from all age groups and levels, ranging from 3 years to 18 years old. She has coached and assisted in Volleyball, Basketball, and Track & Field, plus individual coaching and personal training. Ms. Medina first started as a summer helper in 2016 for the P3 Professional and Public Programs and will be returning as an Instructor for the 2017 season program. |

Eduardo Urquidi | Eduardo Urquidi is a UTEP math instructor who has taught many different mathematic courses at the college level including pre-calculus, calculus, mathematics for teachers, busineness mathematics, fundamentals of statistics, and more. A UTEP alum, Mr. Urquidi has a bachelor’s of science in Electrical Engineering and a Masters of Science in Mathematics. Mr. Urquidi carries over 20 years of teaching experience focusing on innovative curriculums that help connect mathematics to real-world applications. Mr. Urquidi has been with our programs for 2 years teaching mathematic essentials for the middle school and high school age groups. |

Fernando Yamamoto | Fernando Yamamoto studied Linguistics and Marketing at The University of Texas at El Paso and lived in Shizuoka, Japan. He is an active member of the American Association of Teachers of Japanese and teaches Japanese language and culture to adults and youth using different activities to motivate his students. One such activity was the 2018 Nengajo Contest for the traditional Japanese New Year's postcard held by the Japan-America Society of Dallas-Fort Worth. There were 102 contest participants from different schools and universities in the state of Texas and Yamamoto's students won artistic, creative and humor awards. In 2019, Yamamoto was invited to the Embassy of Japan in Washington D.C. In 2020, his students participated in the annual National Japanese Exam, achieving an average score of 88/100. His commitment, excellence, knowledge and creativity is much appreciated. |
