El Paso Chinese School | El Paso's Ai-Hwa Chinese Language School has provided quality traditional Chinese education for several decades. The school operated as "El Paso Chinese Language School" from1990 to 1995 under the direction of Anne Liu. It has been operating under its current name since 1998 with Shinping "Champagne" Chyi as its leader. In May 2004, Ai-Hwa was incorporated as a nonprofit organization and now offers tax-deductible donations. The curriculum focuses on phonetics and traditional Chinese characters and provides weekly classes for small groups of students to listen, speak, read, and write in Chinese. Students can also participate in activities and extracurricular programs that expose them to Chinese culture. The teachers are all native Chinese speakers, each with at least bachelor's degree and up to 20-plus years of teaching experience. |

Delia Diaz | Delia Diaz has taught English and Spanish for twenty years, and French for seven years. She has a doctorate in Education, specializing in English as a Second Language (ESL), a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics with a specialization in ESL and Spanish, and a bachelor's degree in Language Arts with a French major and Russian minor. When teaching languages, her approach is to teach reading, writing, listening & speaking, and grammar together, in the same lesson, so students understand the target language in its entirety. She has students practice speaking the target language as much as possible during the lessons, so she can correct mistakes, and also enjoys including lessons about culture so students can become comfortable with the language and compare it to their own native tongues. Diaz’s overall goal is to have her students enjoy learning the target language without getting bored. She encourages them to befriend the language they are learning using their metacognitive thinking, i.e., to think about what they are thinking. This maximizes their familiarity with and enjoyment of the language. |
Paloma Diop | Paloma Diop is from El Paso, TX and has a B.A in Multidisciplinary studies with concentrations in Science and French from UTEP. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in Romance Languages. Diop learned and studied French language and culture at the Institut Catholique de Paris, in Paris, France and at the Université Catholique de l'Ouest in Angers, France. She has also taught ESL and French at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM as well as at summer camps run by Professional and Public Programs at UTEP. Laura Escobar | Laura Escobar has been dancing ballet since she was seven years old, under the artistic direction of Maru Becerra, Ballet Mistress at the Juarez Ballet Company. Since 2005, she has also been a ballet instructor at the same company where she teaches children starting at the age of three. Escobar has performed and assisted in choreographing ballets such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, La Fille Mal Garde, Coppellia, Giselle, among others. In 2015, Escobar obtained her B.F.A. in Dance with a concentration in ballet, graduating cum laude from UTEP. As part of her training at UTEP, Escobar developed an adaptive ballet class designed for children with disabilities, specifically Down syndrome. My Joyful Dance, where she teaches approximately twenty students with disabilities, has been under her instruction and direction since September 2014 at UTEP. Since June 2015, Escobar has also taught the Department of Theatre and Dance Children's Ballet Program, consisting of Saturday morning, weekday classes, and summer dance camps for children ages three through twelve. |
Greg Fletcher | Greg Fletcher has over 40 years of experience in the electrical field as both a practicing electrician and as an electrical instructor. He has been a licensed electrician since 1976 and currently holds a Master Electrician's License in the State of Maine. In 1988, he was appointed as the Department Chairman of the Trades and Technology Department and Program Director/Instructor of the Electrical Technology program at Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield, Maine. She did an internship at a manufacturing company while attending her last year of college, and worked as a Generalist for about 10 months after receiving her degree. Mrs. Herrera-Maese has worked at University Medical Center of El Paso since April 2002. The first four years she worked as a Benefits Specialist, and the last 13 years as a Compensation Analyst. She received her Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification in December 2005, and her Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification in July 2015. Terrence Johnson | Terrence Johnson is a former UTEP football player; he is also a personal trainer, strength and conditioning coach, weight-loss management specialist, and health and wellness coach who is certified in all these individual areas. Johnson has taught PE, and has been an Athletic Director for over 12 years. Johnson created Empowerment Health & Wellness in 2004 with his wife to develop sports and wellness camps. Their incentive-based educational programs and health programs are available at local schools and nonprofit organizations. Richard Kaminski, Co Developer | Dr. Richard M. Kaminski received his doctoral degree in Wildlife Biology and Management from Michigan State University in 1979. The MSU recognized Dr. Kaminski as an outstanding alumnus in 2022. Dr. Kaminski's specialty is waterfowl and wetlands ecology and management. He worked as a research biologist for Ducks Unlimited-Canada from 1979-1983. From 1983-2015, he was a faculty member of the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture at Mississippi State University. There he and his students conducted waterfowl and wetlands research, and he taught courses in these disciplines plus Wildlife Techniques and Professional Communications. He is an emeritus professor of Mississippi State and the former James C. Kennedy Endowed Chair in Waterfowl & Wetlands Conservation and Associate Dean of the College of Forest Resources. After retirement from Mississippi State in 2015, Dr. Kaminski was named the inaugural director of the James C. Kennedy Waterfowl & Wetlands Conservation Center of Clemson University. Dr. Kaminski retired from Clemson in 2021, is member of Clemson's Emeritus College, and continues to contribute to the waterfowl and wetlands profession. |

Philip Lavretsky,Instructor/Developer | Dr. Lavretsky obtained his PhD from Wright State University in 2014, and began running the Population and Evolutionary Lab at University of Texas at El Paso in 2016. His research program is interdisciplinary and transcends landscape, evolutionary, and conservation genomics to study speciation, evolution, adaptation, and the role of gene flow. Overall objectives of his research are to determine the distribution of genetic diversity across species' ranges to understand (1) the extent to which adaptive and non-adaptive genetic diversity shapes population structure, including (2) what genes are responsible for geographic adaption versus alternative selective pressures (e.g., sexual selection), (3) how contemporary pressures influence a species' adaptive landscape, and (4) how best to use this information to establish better management and conservation practices. Though Dr. Lavretsky has worked across various species, his primary research focus is on the evolution and conservation of waterfowl. |

Lopez received a Bachelor in Kinesiology from The University of Texas at El Paso and graduated with a B.S. in May 2005. Alison Minish-Ford | Alison Minish-Ford is excited to begin the next chapter of her 35-year teaching career at UTEP's Professional and Public Programs. She began teaching middle school in the El Paso area and continued her career as an educator by working with several different age groups in various positions. She has worked as a classroom teacher as well as a teacher trainer and administrator. As a child growing up in a family that valued education, Minish-Ford always knew that she wanted to be a teacher. At the age of sixteen, she started teaching young children and older adults how to swim at the local pool. The knowledge she gained from this experience helped her as she transitioned to the classroom. Minish-Ford is the proud mother of a fantastic daughter who is a pediatric anesthesiologist. She has been enjoying her retirement with her puppy, books and garden, but has been looking for a way to share her knowledge and skills with the community. Teaching ESL is the perfect vehicle to accomplish this goal. |

Elizabeth Pini | Elizabeth Pini a native West Texan who grew up in Odessa, Texas. She has a bachelor's degree in Organizational Management and a master's degree in Public Administration from Ashford University; she is currently working on her dissertation in Organizational Development and Leadership at the University of the Rockies and works as a Supervisory Health System Specialist for William Beaumont Army Medical Center. As a Medical Administrator, she strives to improve Army Medicine and contribute to the El Paso community through education and volunteerism. Pini studied strategic planning at Harvard University Extension School and has several certifications including the Project Management certification, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, and the Army's coveted Lean Six Sigma Black belt studies for ARMY MEDCOM. She has been recognized by the Department of the Army for her accomplishments and received the coveted Dr. Mary Walker Award in 2008 for her role in improving the quality of life of soldiers and their families. In September 2016, Pini received the Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service. She has also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Attorney General of Texas for using her project management and process improvement expertise to save tax payers over five million dollars. |

In addition to being a part-time ESL instructor at UTEP, he is also a part-time philosophy instructor at El Paso Community College, where he has taught for the past two years. Before moving to El Paso three years ago, Rodriguez was an ESL lecturer at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic for eight years. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Philosophy from San Francisco State University and taught Intro to Philosophy and Religion, Ethics and Critical Thinking during his last two years there. He also has a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CTESOL and Advanced CTESOL). Joel Sierra | Joel Sierra joined Professional and Public Programs in Spring 2024, and has greatly enjoyed his experience. Sierra has been teaching for 33 years, the last 12 in adult education. His first stint with UTEP was teaching the Cisco Networking Academy Program in the early 2000s, but his experience then doesn't compare to the excitement he currently enjoys. The biggest difference is classroom size and student motivation, especially from international students. According to Sierra, teaching English as a second language can become quite a challenge, but when students grasp objectives like his current classes have, it cuts his work in half, while compounding the enjoyment. He encourages anyone who has the drive, desire and time to learn English to enroll in any of the many programs Professional and Public Programs has to offer. He says, "If you find education to be expensive, try the alternative, knowledge deprivation!" |
Nancy Smith | Nancy Smith has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry. EHR clinical experience includes working as a medical assistant for a network of rural health clinics, and as a medical coder, insurance claims specialist, and medical records auditor. She worked as a medical office manager for ten years, where she recruited and trained all medical assistants. She worked as a medical office manager for ten years, where she recruited and trained all medical assistants. Carlos Teran | Carlos Teran graduated from UTEP is 1973 with a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication. He has worked as a D.J.for Radio Kama from 1972 to 1995. He taught multi-level ESL classes14 years and worked with Crime Stoppers for 10 years recording their Spanish crime reports. He has worked with radio stations, such as KISS 93.1 FM, for the last 22 years doing traffic reports and is still a traffic reporter for local radio stations. |
Linda Torres-Kleinhans | Linda Torres-Kleinhans is a graduate of El Paso High School and The University of Texas at Austin, where she received her B.S. in Secondary Education and her teaching certification. In 2002, she earned her M.A. in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix at Santa Teresa, and completed her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification. She has 20 years of experience in the private and public sectors, specializing in operations and profit and loss management in both union and non-union environments. In the private sector, Kleinhans has worked for national organizations, including Beatrice Foods, Swift Independent Foods, ACME Boot (a division of Fruit of the Loom), International Multifoods, Greyhound Lines, Inc. and West Corporation. Her experience in the public sector includes teaching at Doña Ana Branch Community College, where she specializes in management and supervisory training. She is the onsite training specialist at Thomason Hospital and is a management and human resources instructor at the University of Phoenix. She has held various positions on the board of directors for the El Paso Society for Human Resource Management (EPSHRM), including its 2006 president. As the current certification director for EPSHRM, she serves as a liaison between the chapter and The University of Texas at El Paso. |
Holly Trimble | Holly Trimble earned a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the University of Colorado, a master's degree in pediatric physical therapy from Boston University, and a master's degree in biology from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. After working as a physical therapist for many years, Trimble transitioned into teaching. She has lectured on health-related topics to all age groups and works as an adjunct instructor of anatomy and physiology. She received an Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award and is the author of "College Success Now!" |

Quentin Watkins | Quentin Watkins is an Army vet with a wide range of experience including working for a congresswoman; being a personal trainer; serving as a soccer and basketball coach/official; teaching in South Korea, the United States and Ethiopia; and, providing humanitarian assistance in Djibouti. Watkins has taught various subjects like English, Ethics, and Social Studies and as a fervent learner who is committed to perfecting himself, he now seeks to improve his grasp of Arabic. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports & Health Sciences with a concentration in Exercise Science as well as a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certification. When away from UTEP, Watkins works for the Boys & Girls Club of El Paso. |

Elisa Wilson | Elisa Fraser Wilson is the Associate Professor of Choral Music and Voice at UTEP. Wilson's duties include coordinating the voice area, directing the university choirs, and teaching choral conducting. She holds degrees in music education and performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Wichita State University in Kansas as well as a doctoral degree in Choral Conducting and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. |
Fernando Yamamoto | Fernando Yamamoto studied linguistics in Marketing at The University of Texas at El Paso. He lived in Shizuoka, Japan and is an active member of the American Association of Teachers of Japanese. Jeonghyun Yoo | Jeong-Hyun Yoo lived in Singapore for a year while studying criminal justice in order to become a police officer. While in Singapore, he taught Korean for Beginners to kids there. He loves helping people reach their goals and teaching Korean allows him to do this while also sharing his culture. Yoo's goal for the Korean for Beginners class is to help students understand and speak Korean effectively. |
