Mike Baker | Mike Baker has been an instructor since 2011. He was previously an HVAC Program Director at both Virginia College and Vista College. Baker was a HVAC technician for several decades and has experience hiring, training, and managing HVAC Technicians. He holds numerous HVAC Excellence certifications, several Green Mechanical Council certifications, an EPA 608 Universal certification, and Emerson Climate Technology certifications. Luigi Bernieri | Luigi Bernieri is a native of La Spezia, an Italian seaside town in the Liguria region. At 18, he moved to Parma to study mechanical engineering, and the served in the Italian Navy for two years. Once his military service was over, Bernieri worked in the manufacturing industry until 2000, when he was offered an employment contract to start a plastic molding operation in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Bernieri's adventures in the Mexican maquilas lasted 23 years and he is now ready for new challenges as an Italian instructor. Bernieri had once owned an Italian restaurant where customers came to paint, and learn about and enjoy Italian food and culture. Today, he brings those experiences to the classroom where he focuses on teaching conversational Italian, as well as Italian culture and etiquette. |
El Paso Chinese School | El Paso's Ai-Hwa Chinese Language School has provided quality traditional Chinese education for several decades. The school operated as "El Paso Chinese Language School" from1990 to 1995 under the direction of Anne Liu. It has been operating under its current name since 1998 with Shinping "Champagne" Chyi as its leader. In May 2004, Ai-Hwa was incorporated as a nonprofit organization and now offers tax-deductible donations. The curriculum focuses on phonetics and traditional Chinese characters and provides weekly classes for small groups of students to listen, speak, read, and write in Chinese. Students can also participate in activities and extracurricular programs that expose them to Chinese culture. The teachers are all native Chinese speakers, each with at least bachelor's degree and up to 20-plus years of teaching experience. |
Jinhwa Choi | Jinhwa Choi is from Korea and has a TESOL certificate and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Choi's career path has been dynamic and diverse, and her experiences have helped her build her English skills and knowledge of teaching strategies. Paloma Diop | Paloma Diop is from El Paso, TX and has a B.A in Multidisciplinary studies with concentrations in Science and French from UTEP. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in Romance Languages. Diop learned and studied French language and culture at the Institut Catholique de Paris, in Paris, France and at the Université Catholique de l'Ouest in Angers, France. She has also taught ESL and French at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM as well as at summer camps run by Professional and Public Programs at UTEP. As a Francophone, Diop is excited to share her love of the French language and culture with her students. |
Sophia Duron | Sophia Duron, a highly motivated and dedicated individual with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Promotion with a minor in Nutrition at The University of Texas at El Paso. Her journey in swimming began during her high school years at Del Valle High School, where she actively participated in Competitive Swimming, earning multiple awards for sports and academic excellence. With over 5 years of lifeguarding experience, including her role as Head Lifeguard at the City of El Paso, she has honed her skills in water rescue, emergency response, and pool management. Throughout her tenure at UTEP's Recreational Sports Department, she maintained a strong focus on safety, attention to detail, and excellent communication. Her passion for swimming extends beyond lifeguarding, as she find joy in teaching and coaching, instilling valuable life skills in future swimmers. Martha Herrera-Maese | Martha Herrera-Maese is a native El Pasoan who graduated from UTEP with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration in May 2001. She did an internship at a manufacturing company while attending her last year of college, and worked as a Generalist for about 10 months after receiving her degree. Mrs. Herrera-Maese has worked at University Medical Center of El Paso since April 2002. The first four years she worked as a Benefits Specialist, and the last 13 years as a Compensation Analyst. She received her Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification in December 2005, and her Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification in July 2015. Martha has served as a Benefits and Compensation instructor for the PHR/SPHR Exam Preparation Course at UTEP since the Fall 2013. |
Rebekah Jerabek | Ms. Jerabek has a Bachelor of Science in English with a minor in Journalism from Northwest Missouri State University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from The University of Texas at El Paso. She is a part of the UTEP English Department where she teaches Rhetoric and Writing Studies courses. Ms. Jerabek is an avid reader and writer. Lopez received a Bachelor in Kinesiology from The University of Texas at El Paso and graduated with a B.S. in May 2005. Manuel Lozano | Manny Lozano has been playing guitar for 15 years. He studied guitar with Stefan Schyga of "La Vienta"(guitar instructor at Franklin High School and The El Paso Conservatory of Music) and is a current student of Danielle Anaya (guitar teacher at Desert Moon Academy). Lozano toured with the national act, "Triumph Over Shipwreck", for five years all over the United States; the group released three albums together. He is currently working on his solo album for his current project, "I-Artifact". Lozano started giving private guitar lessons while on tour and has continued to offer private lessons at Desert Moon Academy. He also teaches groups of beginners and advanced players at various El Paso recreational centers; lessons are taught both face-to-face and via Skype. |

Graciela Medina | Graciela Medina is a 2009 graduate from the University of Texas at El Paso, her major is in Kinesiology and minor in Education. Graciela Medina currently works for the Ysleta Independent School District and coaches at St. Clement's Parish School. She has experience in coaching children from all age groups and levels, ranging from 3 years to 18 years old. She has coached and assisted in Volleyball, Basketball, and Track & Field, plus individual coaching and personal training. She first started as a summer helper in 2016 for the P3 Professional and Public Programs and will be returning as an instructor. |
Alison Minish-Ford | Alison Minish-Ford is excited to begin the next chapter of her 35-year teaching career at UTEP's Professional and Public Programs. She began teaching middle school in the El Paso area and continued her career as an educator by working with several different age groups in various positions. She has worked as a classroom teacher as well as a teacher trainer and administrator. As a child growing up in a family that valued education, Minish-Ford always knew that she wanted to be a teacher. At the age of sixteen, she started teaching young children and older adults how to swim at the local pool. The knowledge she gained from this experience helped her as she transitioned to the classroom. Minish-Ford is the proud mother of a fantastic daughter who is a pediatric anesthesiologist. She has been enjoying her retirement with her puppy, books and garden, but has been looking for a way to share her knowledge and skills with the community. Teaching ESL is the perfect vehicle to accomplish this goal. |

Elizabeth Pini | Elizabeth Pini a native West Texan who grew up in Odessa, Texas. She has a bachelor's degree in Organizational Management and a master's degree in Public Administration from Ashford University; she is currently working on her dissertation in Organizational Development and Leadership at the University of the Rockies and works as a Supervisory Health System Specialist for William Beaumont Army Medical Center. As a Medical Administrator, she strives to improve Army Medicine and contribute to the El Paso community through education and volunteerism. Pini studied strategic planning at Harvard University Extension School and has several certifications including the Project Management certification, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, and the Army's coveted Lean Six Sigma Black belt studies for ARMY MEDCOM. She has been recognized by the Department of the Army for her accomplishments and received the coveted Dr. Mary Walker Award in 2008 for her role in improving the quality of life of soldiers and their families. In September 2016, Pini received the Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service. Jessica Rodriguez | Jessica Rodriguez has been a teacher for seven years, working with K-6 students. Luis Carlos Rodriguez | Luis Carlos Rodriguez is originally from Roswell, NM, but has spent the better part of the past 25 years living, working and traveling abroad. In addition to being a part-time ESL instructor at UTEP, he is also a part-time philosophy instructor at El Paso Community College, where he has taught for the past two years. Before moving to El Paso three years ago, Rodriguez was an ESL lecturer at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic for eight. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Philosophy from San Francisco State University and taught Intro to Philosophy and Religion, Ethics and Critical Thinking during his last two years there. He also has a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CTESOL and Advanced CTESOL). His interests include traveling, trying different types of food and drink, running and power yoga, watching movies and documentaries, and studying philosophical and religious texts. |
Isabela Rojo | From the age of 4, Isabela Rojo's journey with swimming began, sparking a lifelong passion. Through elementary and middle school, she embraced swim classes twice a week, and in high school, she delved into competitive swimming alongside her teammates at Andress High School. Post-graduation, her quest for personal improvement and the desire to assist others led her to the YWCA. While she no longer competes, the joy of preparing kids for future swim meets fills her days. Carlos Teran | Carlos Teran graduated from UTEP is 1973 with a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication. He has worked as a D.J.for Radio Kama from 1972 to 1995. He taught multi-level ESL classes14 years and worked with Crime Stoppers for 10 years recording their Spanish crime reports. He has worked with radio stations, such as KISS 93.1 FM, for the last 22 years doing traffic reports and is still a traffic reporter for local radio stations. |
Linda Torres-Kleinhans | Linda Torres-Kleinhans is a graduate of El Paso High School and The University of Texas at Austin, where she received her B.S. in Secondary Education and her teaching certification. In 2002, she earned her M.A. in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix at Santa Teresa, and completed her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification. She has 20 years of experience in the private and public sectors, specializing in operations and profit and loss management in both union and non-union environments. In the private sector, Kleinhans has worked for national organizations, including Beatrice Foods, Swift Independent Foods, ACME Boot (a division of Fruit of the Loom), International Multifoods, Greyhound Lines, Inc. and West Corporation. Her experience in the public sector includes teaching at Doña Ana Branch Community College, where she specializes in management and supervisory training. She is the onsite training specialist at Thomason Hospital and is a management and human resources instructor at the University of Phoenix. She has held various positions on the board of directors for the El Paso Society for Human Resource Management (EPSHRM), including its 2006 president. Fernando Yamamoto | Fernando Yamamoto studied linguistics in Marketing at The University of Texas at El Paso. He lived in Shizuoka, Japan and is an active member of the American Association of Teachers of Japanese. Jeonghyun Yoo | Jeong-Hyun Yoo lived in Singapore for a year while studying criminal justice in order to become a police officer. While in Singapore, he taught Korean for Beginners to kids there. He loves helping people reach their goals and teaching Korean allows him to do this while also sharing his culture. Yoo's goal for the Korean for Beginners class is to help students understand and speak Korean effectively. |
